Asteroid

From StarMade Wiki
Asteroid
A purple (Sugil) asteroid featuring deposits of Thrensand Sintyr.

Asteroids are highly concentrated deposits of Raw Materials found in space orbiting stars. They are harvested with ship-based Salvage Systems.

Types

Locations of asteroid belts in a star system, as shown in the Map.

Asteroids are a vital part of mining, and resource acquisition in Starmade. There are eight types of asteroids, each with different mineral, crystal, and ore composition. They are located in asteroid orbital sectors in solar systems. Orbital sectors will have multiple asteroids at the center of them. If all the asteroids are destroyed, new ones will be generated eventually on a sector reload.

It should be noted that as of StarMade v0.198.219, Yellow "Lukrah" asteroids are now similar in colour to Red "Cinnabar" Asteroids at a glance. It is recommended you activate Asteroid navigation markers and use that to aid in finding and differentiating them. Without using Asteroid navigation markers, one noticeable difference between the two is that the Yellow "Lukrah" asteroids are a solid dark red, while the Red "Cinnabar" Asteroids are a mix of dark red with a lighter shade of red spots covering it.

Asteroids spawn throughout star-systems in a very predictable, and structured manner, making it easy to find resources. The diagram below shows the different zones in which certain asteroid types can spawn, and the zones' inner & outer spawn radii.

Trivia

  • Asteroids cannot be inhabited like planets or stations, but Faction Modules may be placed on them and the asteroid can then become associated with a faction. This can allow players to make a weapon entity that is mobile through the use of Pull/Push effects or a Push-Pulse System and appears neutral, but houses weapons or turrets. While they cannot be truly inhabited, Blocks such as Build Blocks, Factories, and Undeathinators still function on them, serving as a replacement temporary base to using a Planet. However, the system cannot be claimed from an Asteroid nor can it be made a Homebase.
  • Asteroids can be moved around using Pull/Push effects or a Push-Pulse System to be utilized as a weapon on its own by being "thrown" towards enemy structures or ships (so long as collision damage is turned on).
